Single internal door with side screens
The Graydon Project in Wynyard centred on introducing structure and separation to an open internal space while preserving light, balance, and a high-end architectural feel. The homeowners wanted an internal glazing solution that felt refined and contemporary, enhancing the flow of the home without compromising openness.
To achieve this, we installed a single aluminium internal door with fixed side screens, creating a striking yet understated internal feature.
Design intent and spatial balance
The single door with side screens configuration was selected to suit a wider opening where symmetry and proportion were key. Rather than using a double-door setup, the side screens allowed us to increase the overall glazed width while keeping everyday access simple and intuitive.
This layout creates a strong architectural presence and frames the opening beautifully, ensuring the installation feels purposeful and bespoke to the space.
Aluminium profiles and glazing layout
Slim aluminium profiles were used throughout to maximise glass area and maintain clean, uninterrupted sightlines. The glazing bars were carefully aligned across the door and both side screens, delivering a cohesive, balanced appearance that reinforces the design-led nature of the installation.
The result is a steel-look aesthetic with the precision, stability, and long-term reliability of aluminium.
Practical performance
The hinged door provides ease of daily use while the fixed side screens allow light to flow freely between rooms, helping the interior feel brighter and more connected. This configuration offers subtle acoustic separation, making the space more versatile without sacrificing openness.
The system is ideal for defining zones within the home, such as separating living and dining areas or creating a quieter, more focused environment without fully enclosing the space.
Finish and detailing
Finished in a timeless black powder-coated aluminium, the frames add contrast and definition while complementing the surrounding interior finishes. High-quality hardware was selected to match the overall aesthetic, delivering smooth operation and a reassuringly solid feel.
All glazing was specified as toughened safety glass, ensuring durability, safety, and compliance with internal glazing requirements.
The result
The completed installation delivers a refined internal feature that enhances both the function and visual identity of the home. The single door with side screens creates a sense of structure and separation while maintaining light, openness, and flow.
The Graydon Project is a strong example of how aluminium internal doors can be tailored to suit wider openings, delivering a solution that is both practical and architecturally elegant.
